God’s Peace be with you! I am Fr. Matthew Hummel. Welcome to the St. John Paul II Ordinariate Community. My journey into the priesthood began a while ago.
I have a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. I received my M.Div. from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. I also have an M.A. in Christian Spirituality from St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore.
I was a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 22 years until our family converted. Since then I have worked with the Sisters of Charity at the Catholic Charities Seton Center on the Lower Eastern Shore, as the Director of the Office of Respect Life and Social Concerns for Diocese of Allentown, and I am currently a teacher of Theology at The Roman Catholic High School for Boys.
Three of my passions helped shape my call to the priesthood: One is the sanctity of life, because I am an adoptive parent and the sibling of someone with a profound disability. Another is the writing of the Inklings, especially C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. And the third is the intersection of Faith and Science, and the role the Catholic Church has played in the scientific endeavor.
I am married to a home-schooling mom and mentor. We have two children, one of whom is currently in Law School and the other is serving in the Navy.
Come and find the fulness of Faith I have found in the Catholic Church.
